What is the Hurdle word game?
Hurdle is a five-stage daily word puzzle. Each stage uses familiar five-letter feedback: green letters are correct and in place, yellow letters belong elsewhere, and grey letters are absent. The difference is the relay structure. Solve one word and that answer is automatically scored as the opening row of the next board.
The first four Hurdles each have a six-row board. Stages two through four begin with one carried answer, so five rows remain for your own guesses. The fifth and final Hurdle starts with all four earlier answers already scored against the last hidden word. That leaves only two open rows, but also gives you twenty letters of evidence before you type anything.
How to play Hurdle
- Solve the first five-letter word in six guesses or fewer.
- Read that answer as the prefilled first row on Hurdle two, then solve the new word.
- Repeat the carry-forward pattern through Hurdles three and four.
- Use all four earlier answers as clues on the final board.
- Solve the fifth word in one of the two remaining rows to complete the daily run.
The progress rail above the grid marks completed, current and locked stages. Carried rows have an inset outline so you can separate inherited clues from guesses you entered on the current board. Your run is saved after every keystroke and stage transition; refreshing the page returns you to the same Hurdle.
Why carried answers change the strategy
In a normal Wordle, only the current answer matters. Hurdle gives every successful answer a second job as a future starting word. You cannot choose that future opener, so some stages begin with excellent coverage while others repeat letters or test a narrow corner of the alphabet. The puzzle asks you to recover from whatever information the sequence provides.
The final board reverses the pressure. Four forced guesses consume most of the grid, but their combined clues often expose a nearly complete pattern. Before using the fifth row, compare letter counts across all four scored answers. A grey copy beside a yellow or green copy can be just as important as a newly discovered letter.
Hurdle strategy tips
On the early boards, prioritize solving over designing a perfect opener for the next stage: the hidden answer determines what gets carried. When a carried word produces little useful feedback, make your first free guess broad and avoid retesting grey letters. When it produces several greens, focus on endings and duplicate-letter possibilities before spending a row.
At the final Hurdle, pause before typing. Four rows of evidence are already available, and you have just two chances. Build the full letter pattern, verify every yellow position, then use the first open row for the strongest answer rather than a generic information word.
