Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy describes how wordleunlimited.me ("the Site", "we") handles information when you use the Site. The short version: you can play anonymously, your game data lives in your own browser unless you turn on the optional cloud save, and the only third-party data collection comes from standard advertising and analytics services.
Game data stays on your device
Your statistics, streaks, in-progress games and topic trophies are stored in your browser's local storage. Unless you sign in to the optional cloud save described below, they are never uploaded to us, we cannot see them, and clearing your browser's site data deletes them permanently. Custom challenges you create are encoded entirely inside the share link - we do not store them, and they are never included in cloud save either.
Optional account and cloud save
You can sign in with Google (the button beside the menu) to have your progress - game statistics, streaks, personal bests, trophies and topic progress - saved automatically and restored on any device you sign in on. Here is exactly what an account involves:
- No personal details. Google confirms who you are to us, but we keep none of it: not your name, not your email address, not your photo. We store only a scrambled, anonymous identifier that lets us find your save again, plus the emoji and the player name you pick from our fixed list. Real names cannot be entered.
- Only progress is uploaded. In-progress games, device preferences, custom puzzles you create and your private-room nickname stay on your device, always.
- Delete anytime. "Delete account and data" in the account menu erases your cloud save and account immediately and permanently. Any Arena Cup results you earned stay on the historical leaderboards under the anonymous label "Retired player", with no connection back to you. The data on your own device is not touched.
- Automatic cleanup. If an account is not used for 24 months, its cloud save and account are deleted automatically, the same way as above.
- Solve leaderboards. If you are signed in, each daily puzzle you solve adds one point to the public solve leaderboards, stored as your anonymous identifier plus the puzzle's id and date - never the words you guessed. Public pages show only your emoji, player name and solve count, you can hide yourself from public lists anytime on your profile page, and deleting your account erases your leaderboard rows in the same operation. Detailed solve rows are kept for the current and previous calendar year and then deleted or reduced to anonymous totals.
Optional Google Drive sync
If you choose to connect Google Drive (Settings β Data), the Site copies your
game data - statistics, streaks, topic progress, settings and in-progress games - into a
private app-data file in your own Google Drive so you can restore it on another device.
The transfer happens directly between your browser and Google: the file never passes
through our servers and we cannot read it. The Site requests only the narrow
drive.appdata permission, which cannot see, add to or change your regular
Drive files, and the sign-in token Google issues stays in your browser and is discarded
when the tab closes. You can delete the backup from Google Drive (Settings β Manage
apps β Wordle Unlimited) or revoke the Site's access at any time from your
Google
Account permissions page. Our use of information received from Google APIs adheres
to the
Google API Services User Data Policy, including the
Limited Use requirements.
Information we collect
You can visit the Site and play every game without creating an account or submitting any personal information - signing in is optional and, as described above, stores no personal details even when you do. Like most websites, our servers and analytics may process non-identifying technical information such as browser type, operating system, referring pages and coarse geography, used in aggregate to understand how the Site performs.
Cookies, advertising and analytics
The Site is free because it is supported by advertising, served through Google AdSense. Google, as a third-party vendor, uses cookies and similar technologies to serve ads on the Site, and its advertising cookies enable Google and its partners to show ads based on your visits to this Site and other websites. You can opt out of personalized advertising at any time in Google Ads Settings, and you can read how Google uses information from sites like ours at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites.
Our analytics provider may also set cookies to measure traffic in aggregate. Where required by law you will see a consent dialog that lets you accept or decline non-essential cookies, and you can change your choice at any time through that dialog or your browser settings. This policy does not cover the practices of third-party advertisers; their use of cookies is governed by their own policies.
Sharing
We do not sell, trade or rent personal identification information. Aggregated, non-identifying statistics (for example, total plays of a topic) may be shared with partners.
Children
The Site is a general-audience word game and does not knowingly collect personal information from children. The optional account is designed with this in mind: it stores no name, email or photo for anyone, player names come from a fixed list rather than free typing, and signing in with Google is subject to Google's own minimum-age requirements.
Changes
We may update this policy from time to time; the date above always reflects the latest revision. Continued use of the Site after changes constitutes acceptance.
